So, ya wanna talk noncommittal commitment? When it comes to not quite making empty promises but sounding like you might be about to, nobody pulls the wool over the eyes of the Sheeple in a soundbite like Pretendident Wishy Washy Waffler. I mean, I believe in giving credit where credit is due, so, I have no problem unequivocally declaring Baracko Bama, King of Jabberwockilicious Doublespeak. Take, for example, this doozy of an example of talking loud and saying nothing. At yesterday’s stage-managed Kiss Up to the Pissed Off Gay Community Meeting on the Downlow, which may, or may not have been exclusively attended by real LGBT activists, since an unspecified number of them were flown in from Chicago, and they were all ushered in and out through the back door, the Spokemodel-In-Chief had this to say:
“I suspect that by the time this administration is over, I think you guys will have pretty good feelings about the Obama administration,” the president said.
Oh, be still my heart. He “suspects” his administration might could maybe perhaps do some unspecified thing that he thinks could probably make us guys less pissed to the point of pretty goodness. Oh, joy. And, since I’m sure you guys want proof, beyond the fact that the camera loving Homo Helper, (toot do do dooooo!) protector, defender and promoter of gay rights, did not appear with said protectees on TV, that he actually papered the room with seat-fillers, and snuck the 300 people in attendance in and out so he could lie to them in private, here’s two snippets, one from the Chicago Sun-Times article linked to above…
President Obama and first lady Michelle welcomed gay activists to the White House on Monday, with a contingent from Chicago flying in to mark LGBT pride month.
Invited guests from Chicago (not spouses or partners who came with) included Debra Shore of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Michael Bauer, Fred Eychaner, Vernita Gray, Mary Morten, Miriam Redleaf, Catherine Renna, Laura Ricketts and Jane Saks.
…and the following one from Salon, that back me up:
Like every event it puts on, the White House carefully managed the stagecraft at the LGBT reception. Invitations went out about a week ago, shortly after aides began to realize the grumbling among gay activists was teetering on the edge of becoming a real political problem — the reception was the second move to ease concerns, after an order Obama issued two weeks ago to give some domestic-partner benefits to some gay and lesbian employees of some federal agencies. Media access to the event was limited; a small group of reporters and a camera crew were allowed in, but officials directed attendees to leave through the White House’s East Wing, which meant there was little danger they would wander past the press workspace attached to the West Wing on the other side of the building. Perhaps as a result, the media’s interest was also limited — cable networks didn’t bother carrying Obama’s full remarks live.
However, I’m sure the Obacrats will find one or two starry-eyed gay Obots among the shills, who will fall for anything, and thus fell for his insincere line, who they can make a few vague personal promises to in exchange for passionate promotion of Iceberg Slim’s nebulous non-agenda. While such maneuverings are unlikely to convince many of us homos, that’s irrelevant, the point is to convince the larger majority population that he’s righteously swell to the queers. He can take care of the “I’m a swell guy” boasting about being right about everything else on his own.
In other news, look for the Obatunist to wait and see how the wind blows on Bush’s Iraq pullout of American troops before he decides whether or not to take credit for it. So far, the MSM is reporting the Iraqi’s “so what if we can’t defend ourselves, get the fuck out,” wary celebratory stance pretty objectively vis a vis presidential credit or blame, while simultaneously characterizing the celebrants as foolhardy, childishly stupid victims-in-waiting, and the other half of their country as handwringing doomsayers. No matter, A CNN poll says most Americans approve, which means the upcoming successes, if any, will be solely attributed to Obama’s Overseer-In-Chief skillz, and the death count will become exclusive property of the guy he inherited the opportunity to show off from. However, another CNN editorial says polls don’t mean squat.
In other news, attorneys and Civil Rights advocates don’t quite seem to know what to make of yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling in favor of the plaintiffs in the New Haven firefighters’ reverse discrimination suit. However, the ringers (right wingers) seem to have no such problem, for them the ruling is clear as a bell; Affirmative Action, and, by extension, Sonia Sotomayor, sucks as hard as they’ve been telling us it does from the beginning, and SCOTUS, as well as 3/4 of Americans, agrees.
Unfortunately, it seems that Americans, like too many other humans on the net, are not as bright as one might hope. If they were, nobody would have to tell us not to have swine flu kid’s parties. Though it looks like the idea of exposing children to the virus in hope of inoculating them against a potentially stronger strain originated in England, but, given the viral world we live in, the CDC is taking no chances. Also, since we “top ‘o the food chain” folks like to have unnecessary medical procedures for the sake of vanity, like having our legs broken so extensions can be implanted to make us taller, we need all the common sense warnings we can get. It doesn’t help that, according to the Associated Press, in this day and age, doctors still don’t know what the hell they’re doing, and basically, have to guess at what ails us when we are really sick through trial and error and playing 20 Questions. Good thing the government is planning to spend a lot of money to study that. Makes that whole “digtize medical records so you can heal yourself at home,” plan to cut health care costs seem a lot less attractive, though. But, like I said before, ya gotta give credit where credit is due, and when medical researchers put their minds to a problem, they, gosh darnit, come up with a solution. That’s how come we know that screwing makes sperm stronger, sometimes cures headaches, and just does all kinds of good stuff for your overall health and wellbeing, which will probably do a lot for Viagra sales once the news gets out. What the lab boyz don’t seem to know is, if they take women’s excuses away, all we’re gonna be left with is, “No, fucker, I don’t like you right now.” Guess they better get busy working on a male lib-ego pill.
Oh, and speaking of ego abuse, meet your newest Senator. Congratulations, Al?
And the big wheel keep on turning…

Stop it. Cinie, You’re too young to know who Iceberg Slim is.
Pimp: The Story of My Life, by Iceberg “Youngblood” Slim.
Read it cover to cover when I was 13, Thomas. It had sex in it.
Got me? Guess they have disappeared before and came back. Hopefully, they are just off on a drunken hot tub binge and will come back refreshed. HeHe
Why am I not surprised that no gay visitor was allowed to speak to the press?
A couple of links from HillBuzz about Oblunder before his backtracking. Seems that CBS began calling gays who have been shafted and voicing their disapproval “far left” radicals.

Maybe that’s where the Hillbuzz people went, to Washington. Hillbuzz awol from their blog since June 18th. Rumor is the Chicago machine made them disappear. Anybody know?
I don’t know, but, didn’t they say something a while ago about a friend battling cancer who they were attending to? The article says invites went out a week ago, so that wouldn’t account for the June 18th date. Besides, if they did decide to go to Washington, you’d assume they would have posted that. I have been checking everyday, though.
Btw and OT Cinie, I have noticed that one of my all time favorites of yours: “Pretendident” has gone viral in the PUMA/blogosphere, lol! Love it!
Maybe I shudda trademarked it, huh?
Re; Sotomayor and the New Haven Firefighters:
This is small compared to her role in the wrongful conviction of Jeffrey Deskovic. I posted about that a couple of days ago (link attached to my name in this comment), and if you want to learn more about him, go to his website http://www.jeffreydeskovicspeaks.org/
Here’s an excerpt from his site:
“I want to start by sharing a little of my biography with you. I served 16 years in prison for a murder and rape that took place in NY. All 16 years, I fought to prove my innocence.
At the innocent age of 16, I was arrested based upon a coerced false confession obtained from me following 7 1/2 hours of police interrogation.
I was convicted DESPITE DNA evidence which showed that semen found inside of the victim did not match me. In addition, hair found on the victim did not match me. I was sentenced to 15 years to life, notwithstanding the judge commenting, “Maybe you are innocent.”
The judge? Sonia Sotomayor.
“Empathetic” my ass.
Sorry, Anthony, seems to me he should have been well motivated to see to it that his papers were filed on time. Unless somebody shows that Sotomayor’s office misfiled, or lost the paperwork and then punished him for filing late, this is a non-starter for me.
Certainly respect your opinion on this and not trying to change your mind, but he was 16, his attorney was given the wrong date by the court clerk, and the rest is unfortunately history.
I’m not an attorney, but if I were, I think I would trust the info coming from the court as to filing dates, etc. To consider following incorrect direction from the court as being negligent is a bit much, if you ask me. Also, her “empathy”, which was her main selling point, seems to be missing here.
Anthony, the acceptability of DNA testing in New York was still being debated in 1994, so I’m not sure if DNA evidence was presented at his Deskovic’s 1989 trial, or later, on appeal. Either way, from what I understand, the judge wasn’t Sotomayor. Secondly, the reporter in the video says that the appeal Sotomayor ruled on could have shaved 6 years off his sentence, so he had already been in jail 10 years, was not a boy, and had lawyers representing him that should have been aware of basic filing procedure. Mr. Deskovic’s story is sad, but Sotomayor had nothing to do with his conviction, and her empathy, compassion and/or competence does not seem to be an issue here.
http://www.nytimes.com/1994/03/30/nyregion/ruling-allows-dna-testing-as-evidence.html
Although I understand “thelaw is the law”, I do think she could’ve stuck her neck out. The evidence was offered late, the killer was convicted and sentenced, and he remained in jail for 16 years. Sometimes, a judge has to do whatever they can do to protect the innocent.
Does fairness and morality have a place in the legal system? Deskovic is now a law student and hopes to eventually help others avoid his plight. I’ll be interviewing him over the weekend and will be happy to keep you posted if you’re interested.
anybody who appoints Joe Biden to oversee anything in Iraq is an idiot. word
“Talking loud and saying nothing actually seems to be all that Obama ever needs to do. Here in my little corner of the world, whatever Obama doesn’t say, commentators, journalists, politicians readily interprets it so as to benefit him the most: “Obama thinks that …”!
Apart from that he is on a daily basis praised for being the originator/instigator of just about everything good under the sun – and sadly I see absolutely no sign of this ever changing. The worship is overwhelming and we are way past the point of no return.
So true. So damn true.
Thanks for Tina, Cinie! I use both of these versions on a website for my students. LOVE Proud Mary!
Cinie, thanks for Proud Mary. I never get tired of that tune. Of course, after 38 years of smoking, I do Ike’s “rollin’” part best. (Before anyone starts on me, I quit smoking three months ago. Yes, it’s still kicking my ass. But yes, I can breath better.)
Anyway, I just don’t know what to think of Sotomayor yet. I love that she’s from the Bronx, but Obama picked her. ‘Nuff said. (On the other hand, I still like his pick for Secretary of State.)
Funny thing, Cinie, all this time I thought you were in CA, but you’re in IL. You have no idea how excited I am. Do you realize how much closer that is to where I am?! (CT, in case you’re wondering.) So, if you ever want to make a fan’s dream come true, I’m 13 hours and 38 minutes away (according to Google Maps, not counting rest stops).
Truth be known, all you really need to do to make this fan’s dream come true is to keep writing.
Sophie, good luck with the smoking. And, as far as a meetup, I’m a rolling stone. Raised in Chicago, lived a lot of other places, including California, now in Nuh-vah-dah, dahlink. Who knows where I’ll be tomorrow, or 6 months from now?
Cinie — your here comment is begging for this … “Cinie was a rolling stone”
Aw jeez…you might as well be in CA!
Cinie,
I think, they think, there is worse out there than Sotomayer. I can’t tell what her temperament is, she seems mediocre? Why she used some throw away phrases like A Wise Latina ect….It isn’t like she came out of rural Iowa or Nebraska, she has swimmed with some political sharks, and knows the score “her record” can be used for or against her.
She’s been confirmed by the Senate twice. She’s a shoe-in:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/05/republicans-sot.html
Cinie
They do know that there is worse than Sotomayer waiting in the wings right? This administration does watch the polls.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/june_2009/public_support_for_sotomayor_falls_after_supreme_court_reversal
Sotomayer – under the bus yet? how much “political capital” will the big O spend on a woman?
(still thinking we’re going to get a Kmiec)
Since the court is conservative with or without her, I can’t see the ringers mounting much more than the obligatory standard offense against her. Still think she’s a shoe-in. Unless, of course, they’ve got pictures of her with a goat. Or, a defendant.
I agree with you, OldCoastie. I think she’s under the bus. Obama has not lifted a finger to defend her against all the charges of racism, and now she has been overturned by the SC on a matter of race.
I don’t think he’ll go for Kmiec. No way will the Dems confirm a guy like that. It’s going to be Cass Sunstein.
Interesting, Cinie, how those people who confirmed her before are now no longer in the Senate! Things that make you go “hmmmmm.”
I don’t see how the ringers can seriously object to a Bush appointee, plus, they don’t have the numbers to block her, do they?
You are assuming that all the Dems will support her, Cinie. Even before this decision, some were sending signals that they won’t. Now they will have an excuse.
Ah well, I guess we will have to wait and see.
He only nominated her so that when she is NOT confirmed he can tell two populations, women and Latinos, “See? I TRIED! It didn’t work!” I don’t think he ever seriously supported her.
Al Franken: He’s good enough, he’s smart enough, and darnit, people like him! (Yes, I’ve been waiting a long time to use that line. LOL)
Congratulations, Al. I just can’t get on the “OMG he sucks” bandwagon. I listened to him for years on Air America, and I think he is a good, Hillaryesque Democrat (his hero is Paul Wellstone, by the way – a real liberal if ever there was one). I believe he will be a breath of fresh air in that musty old Senate.
If nothing else, he’ll certainly make watching C-Span a lot more fun.
All I know, MadamaB is, Franken = SNL Lost Years. (which for me is all of ‘em since the first.) Don’t really know much else about him.
