Let’s Cut Through The Crap

In Barack Obama, Politics on April 28, 2009 at 1:12 pm

senator-arlen-specterCutting through the crap is not as easy as it should be nowadays, not because it has suddenly become perfumed chocolate, but because so many people get paid so much to tell you it is.  Pay no attention to the stench, either your eyes are going because you’re old, or you’re too young to know crap when you see it.  The fact that neither proposition could ever possibly be true is irrelevant, that’s the premise everything in the media is predicated upon, so, sadly that is their, and our, basis for “truth.”  It’s still bullshit, though.

American University professor Richard Benedetto makes that very clear in his Politico piece today; giving the media a failing grade for it’s fawning fluffing of the Polebritician currently holding the office of the president hostage:

Last week, I asked my journalism and political science students at American University to grade the news media covering the Obama administration for the first 100 days. The consensus fell between a C+ and a B-.

However, if I asked President Barack Obama’s media strategists to grade the press corps covering their boss, I bet they would mark their cards with an A.

Why? With few exceptions, the mainstream news media have been dutifully pushing the Obama message, burnishing his carefully crafted image and offering few challenges when he makes questionable or misleading pronouncements, gestures or policy statements. In short, they seem mesmerized by the glamour of this new and different president. He is keeping them so busy with skillfully staged daily travel, speeches, meetings and photo ops that they hardly have time to ask tough questions or add context to their stories. Whatever Obama says, or doesn’t say, is usually good enough for them.

Benedetto’s analysis doesn’t go quite far enough in my opinion.  Not only has the mainstream media crawled up the Spokesmodel-in-Chief’s boxers or briefs, (a preference he won’t divulge, while the fact that he thinks he looks good in whichever ones he wears flows from his mouth freely) by extension, they find themselves equidistant up the butts of anyone favorable to him.  Thus, today’s “surprise” move of RINO Arlen Specter’s move to the DINO side of the aisle is being characterized as a death-knell for the Republican party, when it it likely no such thing.

First of all, who paid him and how much did it cost?  Second, the fact that 200,000 Republicans in his state switched party affiliation in last year’s election, while being touted as significant, just might not be.  How many of those switches are the result of Obama’s Democrat for a Day push that proved insufficient to throw the primary his way?   If they simply switched to attempt to defeat Hillary Clinton and just never bothered to switch back, can they be said to have essentially changed position?

Maybe not.  Yesterday’s Washington Post breakdown of party identification represented in their poll shows that while only 21% of those polled self-identify as Republican, a larger percentage call themselves (35%) “conservative,” while 38% say they’re “moderate,” and only 23% claim to be “liberal.”  So, what is the real net effect?  Depending upon which party runs which candidates in upcoming elections, a lot of votes just might be completely up for grabs.  Besides, the Republicans couldn’t count on Specter to vote with them any more than the Democrats can rely on Lieberman.  Or, Specter, for that matter.  On top of that, the guy’s damned near 80, just how much long-term benefit does his move anywhere effect?

The whole, “we’re getting close to a flibuster proof majority” thing is kinda bogus, too.  The Obacrats, having tied all of their major policy proposals to the budget, already had more than enough votes for freezing the Republicans out with their reconciliation threat.  So, how does this ensure policies like, health care reform, will pass, and how does it effect what form the reform will ultimately take?  We know Specter’s for it, but how far is he willing to go?  HuffPo says we can be sure single payer will be on the table, but reports that Wishy Washy Gibbs claims Wishy Washy Waffles Obandini is completely open to suggestion.

Moving on to the current “swine flu that only kills Mexicans” froofraw, we now have stories pushing immigration reform, revealing rises in stock prices of pharmeceutical companies, and rallying for immediate confirmation of “embattled” Obamacrat Kathleen Sebelius for Secretary of Health and Human Services.  Reminiscent of the hysterical push to confirm Treasury Secretary Turbo Tax Timmy Geithner, tax cheat, (TTTG,tc) on the grounds that the economic crisis mandated ignoring his shortcomings in favor of his “strengths,” the media mania seems manufactured, even if the flu threat isn’t.  This last point, questioning the legitimacy of the threat, is itself a legitimate one, given that so far it only seems to kill Mexican people, and making everybody else only as sick as any other flu, as I said earlier.  What kind of virus is that?  Who knows, but it sure moves that Tamilflu.

Meanwhile, shhhhh, pay no attention to the move to roll back Civil Rights reforms; we’ve got a BGINO (black guy in name only) in the White House, so black people don’t need the protection provided by the Voting Rights Act anymore.   At least, that’s what people think, even though we just recently learned that the unemployment rate among black college grads, being twice as high as their white counterparts, just might mean that race relations in America are not quite the peachy-keen lovefest they’re proclaimed to be in the Age of Obama.

Looks like when we cut through the crap, all we find is more crap underneath.

  1. His eyes are dead almost all of the time …he just throws his voice around ..so acting would not be much of an option
he would be better as a cartoon …

    ummm wait a minute …

  2. His speechwriters don’t work that hard, Carol. How long does it take to cut and paste the last one and change the names, dates, and locations?

    • Heck, Cinie, during the primaries he didn’t even bother to change the location. Hence, the flub with the press release stating Obama was thrilled to be visiting the Great Lakes region, when he was actually going to Oregon!

Laziest. President. EVER! (Never thought there could be a lazier one than GWB, but Obama’s making it happen!)

      • I think he’s an actor, and not all actors are good at cold readings, which is what I think accounts for the flubs. He just shows up and reads what’s on the ‘PrompTer. He really screws up when he adlibs.

      • Dumb, too. He thought we had 58 states.

  3. funny how obama said, “McCain has lost his bearings” then put out an campaign ad that he didnt even know how to use a computer.
I guess it’s okay if you lose your bearings at 79 years old and
are able to wobble over to the other side. This job of being Senator must be a cushion job for sure cause you cant get them to retire. Obie’s giving the american people 2 gifts today, a speech in missouri which is on right now, and then primetime tonight. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The only person that must work 24/7
in his cabinet is his speech writer because hell, he’s marked up another historical “could be guiness book record” of speeches and time news channels give him. It beats all i have ever seen LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  4. Cinie,

I have a theory about this:
“Not just Obots, MadamaB, Ross Douthat is saying Republicans would have been better off running Cheney against Obama instead of McCain. I was watching CNN earlier and all they were talking about was how much trouble the Republicans are in. I’ve read a couple other articles online from both sides of the aisle saying pretty much the same thing, the only difference is some pieces are celebratory, others hand-wringing.”

There isn’t a Republican target for the Obots to use to deflect and distract (the American Public) as the economy et al gets worse. The Conservative Pundits are all happy to serve as proxys targets it helps ratings :) If you were the Republicans would you put up your best hope for the Obots to trash? Or would you wait and roll out your choice later?

CNN and MSNBC are now into Trolling, they are baiting and flaming trash talking – Republicans are done ect…. they want to know who it is (The Republican) that will challenge their “Creation” That is after all what Obama is a Media Creation. They want to get a start on treating that person, like they did Hillary and Palin in the MSM.

The Republicans are not dumb they know all the media tricks.

From my Art-ifical post about the MSM

They are not holding up a mirror to American Society. They are behaving like many people have come to know online as “Trolls” there is some kind of morphing going on today in Old Media. I can only guess that networks like CNN and MSNBC feel that if they bait and flame (sensationalize the news) they will attract Viewers. Are they actively trying to build a Troll Base is that an under served demographic? Do trolls have a lot of expendable income? Networks need people to tune into their channels because they need ratings to stay in business.

Of course we know, now that MSNBC via GE expects some quid pro quo.

What does CNN hope to get out of the Obama administration?

    • I think the Corporaticians have co-opted the Democratic party and are really on the same side as the people who own and operate the Republicans. They’re just manufacturing drama to keep the sheeple entertained and distracted. The voters on both sides are either pawns or consumers, or both.

  5. They can’t cut through the crap, Cinie. Because they are addicted to the Hopium:

    http://syd4.blogspot.com/2009/04/confessions-of-hope-fiend-how-obama-got.html

(Linked you today! Excellent synopsis of where the MSM has brought us…)

  6. Term limits require a constitutional amendment, swanspirit. Some activists tried to get them back in the Gingrich era, but the Supreme Court struck them down.

  7. Um…Pampers wears Pampers. That’s why he won’t state his preference, and why you never see him going to the bathroom.

I think 2010 is going to be about wallets. If wallets are empty Democrats lose. And when coal giant Pennsylvania figures out what cap and trade is going to do to them…

Let us also remember that Republicans stayed home in droves this past November. Like you said Cinie, “conservatives” are 35%. That’s what they will run. And in the face of Tushy’s drunken spending, that’s what will probably win. Republicans don’t want “moderates,” just like Democrats were ill from watching their Congressional officials acting like Republicans, cheerleading us into Iraq.

Speaking of wallets, I’m sure this decision has nothing to do with the money that Arlen’s been getting from George Soros. Could Soros funded shill Olympia Snowe be next? Nothing is off the table at the moment, except democracy.

Bottom line, we will continue to be screwed regardless.

    • And who among the fools in charge is going to vote for term limits? We are stuck with these guys.

  8. Just the primaries, not counting Florida or Michigan, Barack Obama apparently won the remaining primariy popular vote by a 50.00 to 49.99 margin, but actually lost the delegate vote to Hillary Clinton by a few dozen.

The huge rack up in votes in the Chicago area gave Barack his popular vote victory, but not the delegate count in the primary states, even when Florida and Michigan are not counted. When they are counted, then Hillary wins every which way, even with the scandalous caucus voting added in.

  9. Let me correct one thing, Hillary Clinton received more delegates, but approximately .01 percent less votes from the primary states than Barack Obama.

    • Doesn’t that depend on whose popular vote total you go with? I thought RCP and The Green Papers gave the popular vote to Clinton. Or, were you talking about something else. Just the primaries?

  10. Barack Obama had the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s vote in his favor because of the internet. It is absolutely amazing that Hillary Clinton still received more votes in the primary states, even when Florida and Michigan were not counted, then Barack Obama got.

Please help me grow http:www.Daily-Protest.com We have to make the credit card companies do the right thing.

  11. Are the fauxgressives really saying that Specter’s switch means the Republicans are done?

Oh lord, the utter stupidity of Obotia. As if there’s any difference between Republicans and Obamacrats at this point.

    • Not just Obots, MadamaB, Ross Douthat is saying Republicans would have been better off running Cheney against Obama instead of McCain. I was watching CNN earlier and all they were talking about was how much trouble the Republicans are in. I’ve read a couple other articles online from both sides of the aisle saying pretty much the same thing, the only difference is some pieces are celebratory, others hand-wringing.
