Buuuuuutttt, the photos (which we all know can be shown to lie, like this one) show clearly that Ol’ Lizzie tired of the embrace a bit before Mrs. Obamessiah.

Angienc- I agree. I think Michelle touched first. I think she did it out of nervousness, being startstruck (forgetting she is not suject to the queen) and not knowing what to do. What was the queen supposed to do? Create an international furor and withdraw in horror? Release a statement that apparently MO was born in a barn? No, she has MANNERS and so she reciprocated in a manner to reassure MO and then withdrew politely and discreetly. She then released a statement that it was just a display of affection (betwen two women that have little in common and nefver met before that day…right.) I don’t think MO was trying to dominate or anything, I simply felt she was nervous and unprepared for the occasion. There are people who can help with that.
Both the FLOTUS and the POTUS need to spend more time with their protocol people and less time in the gym or J Crew and get themselves some learnin’ before they create more situations like this. I just don’t want my county to suffer because of this pair of clods. Actions like this and the lecture to the Eurpoeans about the arrogance of the American people by the poster child for arrogance, are turning my country into a laughingstock. re: the hug — I don’t believe the Queen “hugged” MO first — I haven’t seen any pictures with just the Queen’s arm on MO (as the 2nd picture is of MO only). I believe the Queen — who has been Queen for what — 50 years? — reacted graciously to MO’s faux pas by placing her hand on MO’s back & then slowly moved away so as to diminish the faux pas.
